Leverage Our Strong Foundation in Insuring the Construction Industry

OBTAIN A CUSTOMIZED APPROACH TO YOUR INSURANCE NEEDS

In 1986, Michael Haughn founded Haughn & Associates (H&A) with a primary focus on the construction industry, providing tailored insurance services and products to contractors and their suppliers. Throughout our three decades in this niche specialty, our insurance company has solidified our position as a respected, leading construction insurance and risk-management resource for contractors large and small in Ohio – Dublin and Columbus primarily – and beyond. Our Commercial Lines Department is staffed by experienced and licensed personnel who have dedicated their careers to minimizing the exposures of our construction clients and are active members of several industry associations.

Lowering Workers’ Compensation Costs

We work with a broad spectrum of contractors from general to heavy construction, as well as specialty trade contractors such as carpenters, drywallers, electricians, landscapers, masons, plumbers/HVAC, solar, and others. Our agency’s objective is to help you manage your business risk effectively, resulting in lower operating costs, greater profits, and a stronger balance sheet. Our portfolio of insurance coverages includes the most vital construction industry insurance products:

  • Commercial General Liability
  • Contractor’s Pollution Liability
  • Professional Liability
  • Railroad Protective Liability
  • Commercial Auto Liability
  • Commercial Umbrella/Excess
  • Commercial Property
  • Builder’s Risk
  • Business Interruption
  • Contractor’s Equipment
  • Installation Floater
  • Employment Practices Liability
  • Workers’ Compensation

H&A also offers bonding programs to assist contractors with competitive bidding and securing new customer projects. Visit our Surety Bonds section here.

Along with our carrier partners, we offer industry-specific loss control and claims handling to help you mitigate losses and manage complex and catastrophic construction claims if and when they do occur. This may include providing bilingual safety materials; supervisor training in safety behavior modification; accident investigation, mitigation, and accountability for preventing accidents; safety audits; assistance with OSHA compliance; and more.

Wrap-Up Solutions

H&A is experienced in working with construction professionals on large, complex construction projects and can arrange a wrap-up program for these risks. We provide two common types of wrap-up programs: an Owner-Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) where the project owner can purchase an insurance policy that covers the various participants involved in the construction project, including the owner, construction manager, general contractors, and subcontractors; and a Contractor-Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) where construction managers and general contractors purchase the policy under which everyone involved in the project is covered. A wrap-up provides General Liability and/or Workers’ Compensation and Excess/Umbrella insurance for all participating contractors on a construction project under one primary insurance policy – from the project’s construction phase to its completed operations phase. A wrap-up policy often provides several possible benefits for all the stakeholders involved in the project:

  • Because a single insurer is the control point for all claims and can streamline claims processing, you may gain cost savings and efficiency.
  • Owners can isolate the risk associated with construction away from their core operational insurance.
  • Duplication in coverage that occurs when each contractor purchases independent insurance is eliminated.

The success of wrap-up insurance ultimately depends on the size of the construction project and the surrounding state laws. We can determine if a wrap-up makes sense for your project.

General Liability Insurance

When it comes to insurance for construction business owners, numerous liability risks are waiting around every corner. Even when safety is a top priority on the job site, accidents still occur. A customer or bystander could receive a bodily injury, and property damage and medical claims may result. Whether you are a large construction company with lots of workers, equipment, and vehicles, or a talented professional who runs a niche business by yourself, your company or service requires liability coverages to meet the high-risk possibilities all construction business owners face.

In addition to protecting construction contractors from injury claims and property damage liability risks, general liability insurance also protects your business from personal and advertising liability. This gives you liability coverage against slander, libel, or violation of privacy claims. If your company faces a lawsuit from running a newspaper ad or postcard campaign featuring a logo or slogan already copyrighted and in use by another business, general liability protects you. Your policy pays settlement costs, legal fees, and other defense expenses up to the limit listed for advertising.
